Your Student Visa (Subclass 500) Conditions explained

As an International student on Student Visa (Subclass 500) for Australia, you are required to adhere to the conditions listed in your visa. If you do not comply with any of these conditions you will be held in breach of your visa conditions.

As an international student in Australia, the Department of Home Affairs, the educational Institutes and all ancillary service institutes consider you responsible for your actions. So, it is your obligation to ensure that you are not breaching any visa conditions.

It is imperative that you understand these conditions and abide by them so it may not impact your current and future stay in Australia. Let’s break down these conditions into simple, easy-to-understand terms.

Condition 8105

You have limited work rights and you need to abide them

Condition 8202

You must remain enrolled in a registered course and maintain satisfactory attendance and course progress.

Condition 8303

You must not become involved in activities disruptive to, or violence threatening harm to, the Australian community or a segment of the community.

Condition 8304

Similar to Condition 8303, you must not engage in disruptive or violent activities threatening harm to the Australian community or a segment of the community.

Condition 8501

You must maintain adequate health insurance (Overseas Student Health Cover) for the duration of your stay in Australia.

Condition 8516

You must continue to meet the primary criteria for which your visa was granted, such as remaining enrolled in a course and maintaining adequate health insurance.

Condition 8517

Any school-age dependents accompanying you must attend school and you must cover their education costs.

Condition 8532

If you are under 18 years of age, you must have adequate welfare arrangements in place for your stay in Australia.

Condition 8533

You must notify your education provider of your residential address in Australia within seven days of arriving and of any address changes within seven days.

Condition 8534

You are not allowed to apply for another visa while in Australia, except for a protection visa, temporary graduate visa, or student guardian visa (applied selectively).

Condition 8535

This condition applies specifically to certain government-sponsored students, restricting them from applying for another visa while in Australia except under specific circumstances.
