Additionally, trade qualifications can bea pathway to permanent residency in Australia for international students,provided they meet the relevant work experience and skills assessment criteria. 

Levels of Trade Courses

Certificate III

This is often the entry-level qualification for a trade, providing the foundational skills and knowledge required.

Certificate IV and Diploma

These qualifications offer more advanced training, often combining technical skills with supervisory or management aspects of the trade.

  • Trade courses cover a wide range of industries, including but not limited to:
  • Construction (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrician, painter, Bricklaying, Tilling, Gasfitter, Drainer)
  • Automotive (e.g., mechanics, panel beating)
  • Hospitality (e.g., commercial cookery, baking)
  • Engineering (e.g., fabrication, welding)

Skills Assessment

  • Assessing Authority: Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)
  • TRA assesses whether the candidate’s skills meet Australian industry standards for the specific trade.
  • Qualification: Cert III of 1 year in most cases in some course required to study Cert IV as well for e.g. Cookery.
  • Additional Requirements: Full time visa
  • Full Skill Assessment: 1725 Hours full time job OR    1 Year Job Ready Program

After completing the trade course, students are required to undertake full-time work experience in their chosen trade to meet the Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) skills assessment requirements.
