State Nominated Visa (Subclasses 190 & 491)

Overview

State nomination enables the state government to nominate highly skilled migrants to meet its skills needs. State nomination will help you in obtaining additional points for your subclass 190 or subclass 491 application and a skilled migration visa from the Australian government. Your residency status will depend on the visa subclass for which you received the nomination. Generally, you will need to show the willingness to live and work in the state and will need to show the required skilled experience. In order to receive the state nomination, you are required to submit an Expression of Interest through the state government website.

In order to receive the state nomination, you are required to submit an Expression of Interest to both state and federal governments. The state government will not charge you for submitting an expression of interest to the state, however, you are required to pay to the federal government for an EOI submitted through SkillSelect. The applicants are ranked by a points score system. People with more work experience, higher qualifications, and better English scores have more points and hence chances of getting an invitation for them will be higher. Please know that an EOI is not a visa application. The state government takes up to 12 weeks to grant a state nomination.
